UNICEF Partners with Covenant University to Promote HPV Awareness Among Students

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has collaborated with Covenant University to promote awareness about the Human Papilloma Vaccine (HPV) among students. The initiative aims to protect and promote children's rights by leveraging the influence of academia.
Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, Social Behavioral Specialist at UNICEF's Lagos Field Office, emphasized the importance of engaging academia in child development during a Town-Gown Interaction organized by the Department of Mass Communication at Covenant University.
Speaking on 'Strategic Communication for Behavioural Changes in the Digital Age,' Akinola-Akinwole highlighted the role of students in promoting the HPV vaccine through their platforms, networks, and influence.
She stated, “UNICEF views academia as vital stakeholders in child development. The academic community generates research evidence daily, and we aim to utilize students as foot soldiers to advocate for children’s rights.”

Addressing the students, Akinola-Akinwole encouraged them to embrace digital technology to remain relevant globally. She emphasized the importance of leveraging digital channels to gain knowledge and experiences, as over 60% of Nigeria's population comprises youths.
