UNIDEL Registrar Calls for Attitudinal Change Among Staff

The Registrar of the University of Delta, Agbor, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi, has called on staff to uphold the principles of inclusiveness, cultural sensitivity, diversity, teamwork, and excellence, which are fundamental to the university system.

Speaking during an interview with Media Team, Barr. Omagbemi expressed concerns about the reluctance of some staff to adapt to the transformation from the former College of Education, Agbor, to a full-fledged university.

"One of the greatest challenges is the unwillingness of some staff to let go of outdated practices and align with the demands of the university system. They still cling to old habits, such as arriving at work whenever they like, rather than embracing the opportunities and standards associated with university life," he stated.

The Registrar highlighted efforts by the university’s management over the past three years, including regular training sessions for administrative staff, aimed at fostering professionalism and aligning staff with the expectations of a modern university. He urged those still resistant to change to adjust their mindset, embrace hard work, and stop hindering the administration’s progress.

"Let us imbibe the tradition of universality. It benefits not only the staff but the institution as a whole. We must show humility, respect for authority, and a commitment to excellence," he added.

Barr. Omagbemi also announced that the university’s 3rd Founders’ Day celebration would take place on February 25, 2025, with exciting activities such as a lecture, an interdenominational service, and football matches. He noted that preparations would begin once the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, activates the committee for the event.

He also acknowledged the cooperation of the host communities, led by the Dein and other traditional leaders, in fostering a peaceful environment and maintaining a positive relationship with the university.

Barr. Omagbemi further praised the contributions of the institution’s three unions, urging them to sustain their efforts as UNIDEL continues its journey toward becoming a globally renowned university.
