UNILAG Admitted 9,179 Students for 2025/2026 Academic Session
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) admitted a total of 9,179 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) matriculated a total of 9,179 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The figure comprises students admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Direct Entry (DE), and the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).
The matriculation ceremony, held at the Jelili Omotola (Multipurpose) Hall, marked the formal induction of the new students into the university community.
Addressing the matriculants, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated them on securing admission into what she described as “the University of first choice and the nation’s pride,” attributing their success to merit, hard work, and diligence.
Professor Ogunsola described the ceremony as the beginning of a defining phase in the students’ lives, emphasizing that their journey at UNILAG must be anchored on discipline, leadership, responsibility, character, and purpose.

She urged the new students to uphold honour, honesty, and dignity as core values, while warning them to avoid vices such as cultism, negative peer pressure, examination malpractice, drug abuse, sexual exploitation, and other behaviours capable of undermining their academic pursuits.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students to fully utilize the university’s academic and support facilities, including libraries, research and entrepreneurship centres, mentorship programmes, and innovation hubs.
Speaking further, the Professor of Medical Microbiology described the students’ academic journey as a pathway to personal discovery, character development, and purposeful preparation for life beyond the university. She advised them to make informed choices, seek clarification when necessary, collaborate ethically with peers and faculty, and remain resilient in the face of challenges.
“You will encounter academic demands that will stretch your abilities and resilience. Do not shy away from them; rather, embrace them because they represent growth,” she said, urging the students to cultivate a growth mindset that views setbacks as learning opportunities.
Professor Ogunsola also cautioned the matriculants against derogatory portrayal of the University of Lagos and Nigeria, particularly on social media, noting that such conduct undermines nation-building and could negatively affect future local and international career opportunities.
She further advised them to engage in intellectual activities, participate in constructive student engagements, familiarize themselves with institutional policies, and seek guidance early whenever challenges arise.

The highlight of the ceremony was the formal administration of the Matriculation Oath by the University Registrar, Mrs Abosede Victoria Wickliffe, to the students presented by their respective Deans across all faculties.
