UNILAG Celebrates 43 Law Graduates with First-Class Honours at 2024 Bar Exams

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Law, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, held a grand reception in honour of forty-three (43) of its alumni who achieved First-Class Honours at the 2024 Nigerian Law School (NLS) Bar Examinations.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Law, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, held a grand reception in honour of forty-three (43) of its alumni who achieved First-Class Honours at the 2024 Nigerian Law School (NLS) Bar Examinations.

The record-breaking achievement ranks among the highest numbers produced by a single university in Nigeria.

The event, which took place in the Faculty’s Boardroom, was graced by the honorees, faculty members, students, alumni, and distinguished guests including the Hon. Minister, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, hailed the milestone as a testament to UNILAG’s tradition of excellence. She urged the graduates to uphold the highest ideals of the legal profession, both in character and in practice.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, described the graduates’ success as “stellar, reflecting the Faculty’s rigorous academic standards.” He also highlighted new milestones, including a strategic partnership with the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom.

In their goodwill messages, Dr. Oduwole and Prof. Oyewo charged the graduates to remain models of integrity, professionalism, and national service while serving as proud ambassadors of UNILAG.

The high point of the event was the formal recognition of the 43 honorees, each of whom received a commemorative medal and congratulatory handshake, symbolizing both personal triumph and institutional pride.

Alumni Association Unveils New Initiatives

The occasion also served as a platform for the University of Lagos Alumni Association to unveil bold new initiatives. Alumni President Worldwide, Engr. Ife Oyedele, FNSE, announced the upcoming launch of the UNILAG Alumni App—a digital platform designed to connect graduates across generations, foster mentorship, and celebrate achievements.

He further revealed plans for a new 1,800-bed hostel facility, aimed at improving student welfare and infrastructure on campus.

Drawing inspiration from global institutions with strong alumni-driven development, Engr. Oyedele called on the newly celebrated lawyers to engage actively with the alumni network in order to build a lasting legacy of impact.
