UNILAG Computer Sciences Department to Host 5-Day Workshop on Academic Writing for Early Career Researchers

The Department of Computer Sciences, University of Lagos (UNILAG), in partnership with the African Studies Center at the University of Michigan, U.S.A., is set to host a five-day interactive workshop for Early Career Researchers (ECRs)
The workshop has been scheduled to start from Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15, 2025.
Titled “Building Academic Research Writing Capacity in Nigerian Universities,” the workshop will run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sustainable Procurement Environment and Social Standards (SPESS) Building, located behind the Academic Publishing Centre on campus.

The workshop will address advanced research writing skills, including creating a research space, structuring previous work, sustaining coherent arguments, adapting writing for varied audiences, and presenting local research in formats suitable for international readership. It will also cover strategies for negotiating knowledge claims in scholarly writing.
Participants will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Christine Feak, a renowned academic writing facilitator from the University of Michigan, who will lead the sessions.
The initiative is open to early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and academics aiming to strengthen their writing for academic publishing and global scholarly engagement.
