UNILAG Intelligence Systems Lab Trains Students on Renewable Energy Solutions

The Intelligent Systems Lab of the Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos (UNILAG), recently organized a one-week intensive training program on Renewable Energy. The program, held from Wednesday, January 29, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025, focused on capacity building in Solar PV Designs and Installation.

The training received support from the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC), Energy Centre, UNILAG; the UNILAG Design Studio (Innovation Hub); and Dr. Gbeminiyi Sobamowo of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNILAG. It brought together students and faculty members who were immersed in the fundamentals of alternative energy and power generation, applying their knowledge to power electronic devices.

Dr. Roselyn Isimeto, the Team Lead of the Intelligent Systems Lab, spearheaded the initiative to address Nigeria’s energy challenges. She emphasized that the project aims to inspire and engage participants in developing innovative energy solutions.

“The mission of this training is to inspire and arouse the interest of participants while harnessing their knowledge and strength in proffering and driving innovative solutions to energy generation through various means,” Dr. Isimeto stated.

Expressing gratitude to the partners and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the inaugural edition, Dr. Isimeto revealed plans to make the training a regular occurrence. She called on relevant stakeholders to support the initiative in order to equip young minds with innovative and smart energy solutions.
