he University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been ranked in the top 8.5% of universities worldwide according to the 2024 Global 2000 List by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR). UNILAG is ranked 52nd in Africa and 1774th out of 20,966 universities globally.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has achieved a significant milestone by ranking in the top 8.5% of universities worldwide. This prestigious ranking was announced in the 2024 Global 2000 List by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR).

According to the CWUR, UNILAG ranks 52nd in Africa and 1774th out of 20,966 universities globally, placing it among the top echelons of higher education institutions around the world.

The CWUR's 2024 Global 2000 List evaluated universities based on four key pillars: Education, Employability, Faculty, and Research. These pillars were measured using various indicators:

  • Education (25%): Assessed by the number of a university’s alumni who have achieved significant academic accolades relative to the institution's size.
  • Employability (25%): Determined by the number of alumni who have held top executive roles in the world’s largest companies, also relative to the university’s size.
  • Faculty (10%): Evaluated based on the number of faculty members who have received notable academic distinctions.
  • Research (40%): Comprised of four components:
    • Research Output (10%): Total number of research articles published.
    • High-Quality Publications (10%): Research articles published in top-tier journals.
    • Influence (10%): Research articles published in highly influential journals.
    • Citations (10%): Number of highly cited research articles.
