The Physiological Society of Nigeria is grieving the loss of one of its most esteemed members, Emeritus Prof. Olusoga Adekunle Sofola, who passed away on June 10. He was not only a towering figure in the field of physiology but also a revered teacher and mentor to countless professors across the globe.

Prof. Sofola's academic journey was marked by outstanding achievements. He obtained his BSc, MSc, and MBBS from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, before pursuing his PhD at the Department of Cardiovascular Studies, University of Leeds. His dedication to academia spanned over four decades, during which he lectured at the University of Lagos and held professorial positions in several countries including the UAE, US, and UK.

Throughout his illustrious career, Prof. Sofola authored numerous seminal works, including books, book chapters, and journal articles that continue to be influential in academic circles worldwide. Recognizing his immense contributions, the University of Lagos honored Prof. Sofola with the title of Emeritus Professor upon his retirement, a testament to his enduring legacy in the field of physiology. He was a founding member and Fellow of the Physiological Society of Nigeria and served as the immediate past President of the Association of African Physiological Sciences (AAPS). Additionally, he was a Fellow and former Treasurer of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
