University of Ilorin hosts a landmark workshop exploring AI's potential in education, emphasizing augmentation over replacement of human capabilities.

The University of Ilorin hosted a two-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing its role in enhancing educational practices and beyond. The event, held at the university auditorium on July 3, 2024, gathered distinguished lecturers, students, and experts from various fields to explore the transformative potential of AI.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), who could not attend in person, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, underscored the importance of AI in augmenting human capabilities rather than supplanting them. He highlighted the workshop's goal of equipping participants with the necessary skills to navigate and harness AI's benefits responsibly across different sectors.
"The true power of Artificial Intelligence lies in augmenting human potential," Prof. Egbewole emphasized, noting AI's potential to revolutionize sectors from healthcare to education, fostering innovation and efficiency.

The workshop, organized in collaboration with School Try and Tech Mindset Unilorin, received accolades for its comprehensive approach in integrating AI into academic and professional landscapes. Prof. Egbewole commended the organizers and participants for their dedication, stressing the importance of embracing technology to meet future challenges effectively.
Addressing the audience, Prof. Rasheed G. Jimoh, Director of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) at the University of Ilorin, highlighted the necessity of clear goals in harnessing AI's transformative potential. He urged participants to develop actionable strategies aligned with institutional objectives to maximize the benefits of AI technologies.
Guest lecturer Prof. G. A Aderounmu from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing AI's capability to enhance learning experiences and foster innovative research. Mr. Ismail Eleburuike, CEO of Try Edtech, Sweden, and alum of the University of Ilorin, discussed AI's role in personalized education, citing examples from his experience with leading tech firms.
Miss Joan Mbesya, CEO of Tech Mindset Africa, Kenya, delved into deep learning algorithms, illustrating how advanced AI techniques facilitate data analysis and predictive modeling, essential for tackling complex challenges across industries.
