UNILORIN Students Union Announces Transportation Fare Increase Amid Fuel Price Hike
Due to rising fuel costs, the University of Ilorin Students' Union has announced an increase in transportation fares effective October 28, 2024.
In response to the recent surge in fuel prices, which have escalated from ₦930 to between ₦1,200 and ₦1,500, the University of Ilorin Students' Union has announced an unavoidable adjustment in transportation fares effective Monday, October 28, 2024.
The revised fares are as follows:
- PS - Tanke: ₦300, now ₦400
- PS to Challenge/Post Office (Bus): ₦500, now ₦600
- PS to Challenge/Post Office (Car): ₦600, now ₦700
This fare increase reflects the rising costs of operation and aims to maintain reliable transportation services within the university community while balancing the interests of both students and service providers amid the current economic climate.
The Students' Union acknowledges the impact this adjustment may have on students and is actively engaging with the State Government for potential solutions. Additionally, efforts are underway to secure more Marco-polo buses as a more affordable transportation alternative.
The Students' Union urges all members to adhere to the new fare structure and reassures students that fare reductions will be considered when the economic situation improves.
