UNILORIN to Merge two Academic Sessions to Address Backlog

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN has announced that it will officially merge the 2023/2024 academic session with the 2024/2025 session. This decision, confirmed by Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), aims to resolve delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

In an interview with UNILORIN Bulletin on August 29, 2024, Prof. Omotesho explained that the University faced significant logistical challenges when considering running the two sessions concurrently. The decision to merge the sessions will streamline the academic calendar and help restore the traditional October-to-July academic cycle.

The new session will begin in October 2024, pending final approval from the Senate, after a review by the Committee of Provosts and Deans.
