The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, has commended Street Child International for donating a collection of academic books to the University.

The donation ceremony was held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

According to a statement from the university’s management, the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, expressed deep appreciation to Street Child International for its generosity and continued partnership with the University. He described the donation as a significant contribution to the enhancement of learning resources and a reflection of the organization’s commitment to advancing education.

In his remarks, the representative of the Country Director of Street Child International, Dr. Smart Atta, explained that the books were provided through Book Aid International and donated to strengthen the University’s library system and support students’ academic needs across faculties.

Dr. Atta noted that the initiative aligns with Street Child’s broader mission of ensuring that children are safe in school and learning effectively. He added that by extending similar support to higher institutions, the organization hopes to improve access to quality learning materials, promote academic excellence, and foster sustainable educational development in Nigeria.
