The Management of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has issued a stern directive regarding the unauthorized use of vehicles with tinted glasses and covered number plates on its campus.

In an internal memorandum released by the Security Division on March 27, 2026, the University's Top Management Committee (TMC), during its 137th Meeting, expressed "serious concern" over the continued violation of the existing ban.

Enforcement Timeline and Penalties:

Grace Period: All vehicle owners with tinted glasses have been granted a one-week grace period from the date of the notice to ensure full compliance.

Forced Removal: Upon the expiration of this period, the Tinted Glasses Enforcement Team has been officially authorized to remove any tinted materials found on vehicles parked or moving within the University premises.

Number Plate Policy: Security personnel at Gates I & II have been instructed to strictly enforce the ban on covered number plates, ensuring all vehicles are identifiable upon entry.

Statement from the Chief Security Officer:

Major Abiya Mohammed (Rtd.), the Chief Security Officer, emphasized that these measures are vital to maintaining "security, safety, and orderliness across the campus." He appealed for the full cooperation of staff, students, and visitors to prevent any security breaches.

The move comes amid heightened security protocols in the region and reflects the university's proactive stance on campus safety.
