The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has introduced a “Strict Silence Policy” for all night study sessions as examinations begin this Monday.
In a memorandum signed by the SUG Attorney General, Ittoro Gabriel, students have been instructed to maintain absolute quiet in and around study halls to ensure everyone has a fair environment for focused preparation.
The directive bans all audio disturbances, including music, podcasts, movies, loud group discussions, singing, and chanting in designated quiet areas. Organized religious activities must now be moved to designated worship areas or held outdoors to prevent distractions. The SUG emphasized its “Golden Rule”: if a neighbor can hear you, you are too loud.
To enforce the policy, students are encouraged to document violations with photos or videos, and offenders will face action in the SUG Courts for public nuisance and academic sabotage.
The SUG concluded by wishing all students success in their upcoming examinations.
