University of Ibadan Alumni Honours LASU VC, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, FCCPC's Hon. Tunji Bello, and Eminent Nigerians

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Wednesday joined her husband, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Hon.

Tunji Bello; the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah; and other distinguished alumni of the University of Ibadan to receive prestigious awards conferred by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide.

At the ceremony, held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess & Suites, Abuja, Professor Olatunji-Bello received the Worthy Ambassador Award, an honour she shared with three other recipients: Ryan Hon. Pascal Adigwe, Engr Abraham Oshadami, and Rt Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso.

A proud 1985 graduate of the premier university, Professor Olatunji-Bello was recognised for her “outstanding leadership in tertiary education and inspiring the girl child, shaping lives, and advancing excellence,” a citation that drew enthusiastic applause from attendees.

Her husband, Hon. Tunji Bello, also an illustrious alumnus, received the Meritorious Service Award for his exemplary contributions to public service in Nigeria. In addition, he led his organisation, the FCCPC, to clinch the Corporate Excellence Award.

Other eminent honourees at the well-attended event included the Vice-President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr Mohammed Juldeh Jalloh; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede; and the Chairman of the UBA Board of Directors, Ambassador Joe Keshi, among others.

The Chairman of the occasion, His Eminence Alhaji Mohammed Sa’Ad Abubakar III, CFR, mni, congratulated the awardees for being exemplary ambassadors of the University of Ibadan. He urged them to continue deploying their influence to foster national development and called for collective support in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Professor Olatunji-Bello dedicated her award to the entire staff and students of Lagos State University, acknowledging their steadfast support. She reaffirmed her commitment to leading the institution with excellence and serving as a role model for young girls across the country.

She was accompanied to the event by members of the LASU management team.
