University of Ilorin Applauds Kwara Governor's Subsidized Transportation Initiative

The University of Ilorin has expressed its appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his laudable initiative in approving and releasing three Mass Transit buses to facilitate transportation for members of the institution's community. The buses will operate with a 50% fare reduction for a duration of four weeks starting from Monday, March 19, 2024.

In a letter dated February 19, 2024, and signed by the University's Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, addressed to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Honourable Salami Wasiu Onibugbe, the University expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for implementing the program. The initiative is expected to alleviate transportation challenges faced by many staff and students, particularly those residing off-campus.

The Registrar also conveyed the approval of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, for the utilization of the University’s Bus Terminus at Tipper Garage as one of the designated bus stops. This approval was granted in response to the Kwara State Government’s request to utilize the University’s Bus Terminus for transportation purposes.

The University emphasized its deep appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support and commitment to the growth and development of the institution.

The letter stated, "It is evident that this transportation intervention by His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will significantly alleviate the transportation challenges faced by both students and staff of the University."

The 50% fare reduction on the three buses will be applicable for a period of four weeks starting from Monday, March 19, 2024.

This initiative is believed to be a response by the Kwara State Government to a report published in the January 22, 2024 edition of UNILORIN BULLETIN, where members of the University community appealed to the government to reinstate mass transit services along the University route.
