FACULTY OF ARTS
1. Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics
M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes:
a. M.Phil/Ph.D. Linguistics
Entry Requirements:
M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates should possess at least a second class upper degree at the B.A. level and a good masters of Arts degree in the relevant discipline from recognized University. The M.A. must be of the standard specified in the Regulations Governing higher Degree and Diplomas.
M.A. programmes:
a. M.A. Linguistics
Entry Requirements:
To qualify for admission into an M.A. programme, a candidate must possess a good honours degree (B.A.) in the relevant discipline (Linguistics) with preferably a first class or a second upper division from a recognized University.
2. Department of English Language
M.A. Programmes:
a. M.A. English Language
b. M.A. Literature in English
Entry Requirements:
Candidates for admission into the Department of English (M.A. in English Language/Literature-in-English) must possess a minimum of five O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language and Literature in English. A good Bachelor’s Degree in English Language or English Literature-in-English/English or/Linguistics which must not be below a second class lower division obtained from a recognized University.
M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmmes:
- M.Phil/Ph.D. English Language
- M.Phil/Ph.D. Literature in English
Entry Requirements:
Admission into M.Phil/Ph.D. English Language or Literature in English requires M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates should possess at least a second lower degree in B.A. English Language or B.A. Literature in English with a minimum Weighted Scored Average (WSA) of 60% in M.A. English Language or M.A. Literature in English from a recognized University.
All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process to be decided by the Department.
3. Department of Foreign Languages
M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

For M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates, a Master’s Degree in History and International Studies or its equivalent in a related discipline with a minimum Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60% from a recognized University.
M.A. Programmes:

c. M.A. History and International Studies.

For a M.A. programme, a minimum of Second Class Lower Degree in History and International Studies or its equivalence in a related discipline from a recognized University.

Entry Requirements:
For the M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes, a candidate must have a Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60.00% and above and a score in Project report/dissertation, not below 60.00%
M.A. Programmes:

c. M.A. Play Creating
Entry Requirements:
Candidates for M.A. programmes would be expected to hold a first or a second Upper degree in appropriate subject from the University of Jos or from a recognized University or a degree or qualification with relevant experience and evidence of creative ability which are acceptable to the Senate of the University of Jos.
4. Department of Mass Communication
M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes:
a. MPhil/Ph.D. Mass Communication
Entry Requirement:
For M.Phil/Ph.D. programme, a candidate must have an M.A. in Mass Communication with a minimum Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60.00% in their final assessment results for Master’s Degree.
M.A. Programmes:
a. M.A. Mass Communication
Entry Requirement:
For the M.A. programme, a Candidate must possess a B.A. or B.Sc. degree (minimum of Second Class Lower with grade point of not less than 3.0) in Mass Communication from the University of Jos or an Accredited University that is recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos. Also, candidates with a Bachelor Degree in any of the Social Sciences or Humanities and a Professional Diploma in Mass Communication, Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations and Advertising or Media Studies (with appropriate professional membership registration and years of experience) may apply.
