The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the University of Lagos Alumni Association recently held a scholarship award ceremony for brilliant but financially disadvantaged students from public secondary schools in the FCT. The event, graced by esteemed dignitaries, aimed to empower deserving students and promote educational excellence.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the University of Lagos Alumni Association recently held a scholarship award ceremony for brilliant but financially disadvantaged students from public secondary schools in the FCT. The event, graced by esteemed dignitaries, aimed to empower deserving students and promote educational excellence.

Key Highlights:

  1. Scholarship Recipients: A total of 24 students were selected from the

     six Area Councils of the FCT. These promising young minds underwent a rigorous screening process to qualify for the scholarships.

  2. Generous Endowment: The FCT Alumni members demonstrated their commitment to education by launching a N10 million scholarship endowment. This endowment will provide financial support to deserving students over the long term.

  3. Financial Assistance: The awarded scholarship covers tuition fees for six terms and includes registration fees for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

  4. Individual Contributions: Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, played a pivotal role by offering a N5 million contribution to the scholarship fund. His generosity underscores the importance of community support in nurturing young talent.

  5. Academic Excellence: The FCT Branch Chairman, Alhaji Aliu Akoshile, emphasized the need for students to remain focused on their education and uphold high academic standards. He encouraged them to steer clear of negative influences and contribute positively to their communities.

  6. Breaking Gender Barriers: Alhaji Akoshile specifically addressed female students, urging them not to perceive gender as an obstacle. He highlighted Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as a role model. Professor Ogunsola’s remarkable academic achievements serve as inspiration for young women pursuing excellence in education.

  3. Dr. Emmanuel Ibe and Bldr. A. M. Ajani, Chairman and Secretary of the chapter’s Education Committee, respectively.
  4. Four directors from the FCT Education Secretariat.
  5. The principal of the scholarship recipients.
