Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) has officially opened the search for a new Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor will serve as the Chief Executive and Academic Officer, ex-officio Chairman of the Senate, and a member of the Governing Council. This pivotal role encompasses a range of responsibilities including overseeing financial management, facilities, administration, and academic programs at the university.

Candidate Requirements

To qualify for this prestigious position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a first degree, a master’s degree, and a PhD in relevant fields offered by Unizik.
  • Be a distinguished Professor with a minimum of nine years of experience at this rank in a reputable university.
  • Have earned a PhD at least 15 years prior to this advertisement and have a proven record of supervising postgraduate students to completion.
  • Demonstrate a strong history of securing significant research funding, including at least Four Hundred Million Naira (N400,000,000), and a track record of successfully obtaining research grants to advance the university’s research capabilities.
  • Have at least ten years of service within the university system, showcasing integrity and competence.
  • Be no older than 65 years at the time of assuming office, with the ability to serve a full five-year term before reaching the retirement age of 70.
  • Possess strong information and communication technology skills pertinent to modern academic settings.
  • Exhibit courage and integrity in decision-making based on factual and principled considerations.
  • Show high international visibility and respect within the academic community, supported by a substantial record of research publications and active participation in international scholarly societies.
  • Foster collaboration within the university community and among stakeholders, free from ethnic, religious, or local biases.
  • Be physically and mentally fit to undertake the duties of the role and any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Council.

Terms and Conditions

The successful candidate will be offered a salary and conditions of service consistent with those applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria, as determined by the Council. The position is for a single five-year term.
