World Bank, AAU, and NUC Extend Support to Covenant University's CApIC-ACE Center

A delegation from the World Bank, Association of African Universities (AAU), and the National Universities Commission (NUC) visited Covenant University's Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE) to evaluate the progress of the World Bank-supported ACE-IMPACT Project.

A delegation comprising representatives from the World Bank, Association of African Universities (AAU), and the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently visited Covenant University's Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE) to assess and support ongoing projects.

Led by Professor Solomon Agbor, the team's mission focused on evaluating the progress of the World Bank-supported ACE-IMPACT Project, which is set to conclude next year. The visit had two primary objectives: reviewing the center's accomplishments in 2024 and understanding its sustainability plan post-project completion.

Covenant University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, welcomed the team, expressing optimism about the visit's outcomes. He emphasized the university's dedication to excellence and integrity, highlighting measures in place to ensure the center's sustainability.

Professor Gikiri Thuo, a World Bank ICT expert, lauded Covenant University's academic achievements, ranking it as the top university among thousands. He expressed confidence in Covenant's potential to become the leading university in Africa, stressing the significance of effective leadership.

Mrs. Airudulu Lulu from the NUC and Mr. Frank Adjei from AAU both underscored the project's importance, emphasizing the need to meet all set objectives by June 2025. They assured support from AAU and World Bank levels to address any challenges faced by CApIC-ACE, ensuring project success and sustainability.

Professor Emeka Iweala, the Center Leader, expressed gratitude for the continuous support and highlighted the center's progress towards achieving its goals. He assured the team that previous concerns had been addressed, emphasizing effective management and commitment to sustainability.

During the exit meeting, Professor Agbor acknowledged the center's improvements, including enhancements in student performance and sectorial meetings. He advised on supporting the public health information app, FEDGEN-PHIS, developed by the center, and its potential commercialization.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for their constructive feedback, acknowledging the positive impact of their quarterly visits on the center's development.

In closing, the Registrar, Mrs. Regina A. Tobi-David, assured the delegation that the management would consider all observations for further improvements.

Professor Iweala concluded by thanking the team for a successful visit and pledged to address noted challenges with the university's support, reaffirming commitment to meeting all requirements before the project deadline.
