A total of 129 students from the Department of Educational Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling have been formally inducted into the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).
A total of 129 students from the Department of Educational Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling have been formally inducted into the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).
The induction ceremony was held recently, with the National President of CASSON, Professor Malami Umar Tambuwal, being represented by the Second National Vice-President, Professor C.J. Ogwu, who officially inducted the candidates as professional counsellors.
Dr Ikenyiri Emmanuel, the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Technical, Omoku, Rivers State, delivered the keynote address. In his speech, Dr Emmanuel highlighted the importance of professionalising the counselling career, describing it as a critical necessity for counselling psychologists in Nigeria. He emphasised the need for enhanced standards in the profession to meet the growing demands of mental health and educational support across the country.
The ceremony also featured remarks by Professor Cheta Williams, Dean of the Faculty of Education. Professor Williams urged the newly inducted counsellors to serve as exemplary ambassadors of the university and uphold the highest ethical standards in their professional practices.
The induction marks a significant milestone in the students' academic and professional journeys, as they join a distinguished community of counselling professionals committed to advancing mental health and educational support in Nigeria.
