17-year-old Nigerian American, Adrian Ottah, has achieved the remarkable feat of graduating from both high school and college in the same week. Born to Nigerian immigrants, Ottah’s parents moved to the United States a few years before his birth in search of better opportunities.
In an extraordinary display of academic prowess, 17-year-old Nigerian American, Adrian Ottah, has achieved the remarkable feat of graduating from both high school and college in the same week.
This remarkable achievement was made possible by his participation in a unique program at University High School in Newark, where college professors teach college-level courses to a select group of students.

Born to Nigerian immigrants, Ottah’s parents moved to the United States a few years before his birth in search of better opportunities. Their journey and sacrifices served as a significant motivation for Ottah. "My true motivation was my parents, my immigrant parents. I know they didn’t have the opportunity to do this, so when I had the opportunity, I just took it and ran with it,” Ottah said.
Despite the additional workload, Adrian excelled in both his high school and college classes. He earned 60 college credits through the program at University High School, while maintaining a GPA of over 3.0 in his college classes and a 3.5 in high school. He said, “I’m graduating with over a 3.0 GPA in a college class while juggling high school classes as well and I have a 3.5 in high school.”

With the college credits he’s already earned, Adrian could graduate with a bachelor’s degree at just 19 years old. His achievements are a testament to his hard work and dedication, and a tribute to the sacrifices made by his parents. He said that he wants to honor the sacrifice made by his parents and to change the arc of his family in a single generation.
