AAU CRISIS: Edo PDP calls for quick resolution of AAU disputes

The Edo State chapter of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concern over the lingering crisis in the state owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU) that has led to the indefinite closure of the school, Myschoolnews report.

Last three weeks, the Students Union Government of of AAU mobilized the students on a series of protests due to the increase in the school fees by the Special Intervention Task Force (SIT). The management, inorder to forestall breakdown of law and order, dissolved the Students Union Government, set up a Caretaker Committee and closed down the school indefinitely.

In a statement made in Benin on Sunday to mark the Ambrose Alli day, the Edo State PDP chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, expressed concern over the negative impacts the deadlock is causing the students and the institution. He noted ; “As we remember our late icon, late Professor Ambrose Alli today, it is important that we do not allow the Legacy that he left behind to collapse. The current closure of the Ambrose Alli University is one crisis too many.

As a party, the education of our children and the welfare of the academic staff are priorities to us. The PDP led administration in the state., under Governor Godwin Obaseki, is doing everything possible to reposition the university so that it can take its rightful position amongst the nation’s ivory towers.

I want to appeal to the management and staff of AAU to sheathe their swords and go to the round table to resolve whatever differences they have in the interest of all concerned. The PDP is anxious to see our children back to school soonest “
