The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Abia State University (ABSU) has voiced out their disagreement with Governor Alex Otti's statement about paying salaries on time.

Governor Otti, speaking during a recent media engagement, asserted that his administration had diligently disbursed salaries to all ABSU employees for both April and May. He attributed any reported discrepancies to potential banking issues and assured that outstanding leave allowances would be addressed alongside adjustments for the new minimum wage.

In response, ABSU-ASUU, represented by Chairperson Chidi Mbah and Secretary Victor Obisike, countered Otti's claims. They refuted the governor's statement, indicating that only a small percentage of staff had received their April salaries, and even fewer had received payments for May. They highlighted significant deductions and irregularities in the salaries received, with some staff not receiving any payment at all, especially those banking with the university's microfinance institution.
