ABU Appoints Prof Mu'azu as Director of Distance Learning Centre
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria has appointed Professor Muhammed Bashir Mu'azu as the new Director of the Distance Learning Centre (DLC). Mu'azu, a digital education innovator and lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering, is expected to provide transformative leadership to the Centre.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, stated that Mu'azu's appointment is based on his demonstrated commitment to excellence in open and distance learning. Mu'azu's tenure as Director will last for two years, effective July 16, 2025. He is expected to reposition the DLC as a centre of national and continental excellence in open and distance learning.
Mu'azu previously served as Head of the Department of Computer Engineering and Director of the Iya Abubakar Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IAIICT). His expertise in computational and digital learning systems is seen as timely in driving the DLC's mission.
In a related development, Professor Aliyu Yahaya has been appointed as the new Director of Arewa House - Centre for Historical Documentation and Research. Yahaya, who previously served as Director of the DLC, brings a distinguished academic pedigree and proven leadership capacity to his new role. His appointment is also for a period of two years, effective July 16, 2025.
