Achievers University, Owo, held its 14th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony for 43 newly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium, with a strong call for innovation, integrity, and lifelong learning in professional practice.

Delivering the induction lecture titled “Post-University Education and the Job Ecosystem: Best Practices and Innovations,” Dr. Toyosi R. Yekeen of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) challenged the inductees to distinguish themselves through creativity, competence, and ethical conduct.

“Innovation begins when a few people start performing better than most. As scientists, your value will lie in your creativity, your integrity, and your ability to solve problems with precision,” Dr. Yekeen stated.

He described the medical laboratory science profession as the backbone of healthcare delivery and one that is rapidly evolving through digital transformation, automation, and artificial intelligence. He stressed the need for practitioners to develop interdisciplinary skills and embrace new technologies to remain relevant in a fast-changing global health environment.

Addressing the issue of professional migration, Dr. Yekeen urged the graduates to see Nigeria not merely as a transit point for opportunities abroad but as a viable environment for innovation and professional impact. He highlighted the numerous career pathways available within the country, including hospital laboratories, research institutes, pharmaceutical industries, academic institutions, and biomedical equipment firms.

Dr. Yekeen concluded by reaffirming that the future of medical laboratory science depends on ethical leadership, continuous learning, and a commitment to scientific excellence, urging the new professionals to uphold the highest standards in their practice.
