The recent death of Modupe Ayandare, a 500-level Agronomy student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has sparked mixed reactions and calls for a thorough investigation. Ayandare was found dead near a church off-campus on Monday, with initial reports suggesting she hanged herself around 4 a.m. after attending a vigil.

Despite the official report, many Nigerians, including activist Oluwaseun Ogunmola, have raised doubts about the circumstances of Ayandare's death. Observers have noted inconsistencies in the posture of her body, challenging the suicide narrative. Ogunmola has urged the state government and police to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice for Ayandare.

“This is not the first time an AAUA undergraduate has been declared dead under suspicious circumstances. The available reports and videos raise questions that need answering. I call on the state government to assist in providing justice for her loved ones,” Ogunmola stated.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Adekunle Ajasin University has also expressed concern. SUG Public Relations Officer, Olaogbebikan Noble, described the circumstances of Ayandare's death as mysterious. He noted irregularities observed at the scene, including the rope around her neck, which was not tied firmly.

“Her body was found kneeling with a loosely tied rope on her neck. This does not align with the typical signs of suicide, raising further questions about what really happened. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and we await their findings,” Noble said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, reiterating the commitment to uncover the truth behind Ayandare’s death.
