Admiralty University of Nigeria Holds Maiden Postgraduate Workshop, Charges Students on Research Excellence and Academic Integrity

Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Ibusa, Delta State, on Wednesday, June 11, 2026, successfully held its maiden Postgraduate Workshop at the University Law Auditorium.

‎The occasion was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Bankole Ndubuisi Ogbogbo; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Navy Capt. Prof. Isah Rambo Saidu; the Registrar, Navy Capt. A. T. Abdullahi; the University Librarian, Navy Commander A. E. Ameobi; other management staff of the University; alongside professors, academic and non-academic staff, and postgraduate students.

‎In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ogbogbo, highlighted the crucial role of postgraduate studies in the growth and development of the University. He emphasized that ADUN is widely recognized for quality research and encouraged students to focus on producing impactful research work capable of addressing societal challenges and contributing meaningfully to the body of knowledge and national development.

‎Earlier, the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Hassan Ebhozele Oaikhenan, delivered his welcome address, urging postgraduate students to actively participate in academic discussions, ask relevant questions, and engage meaningfully with facilitators and colleagues throughout their studies.

‎Prof. Peter Ajulu, the Immediate Past Dean of Postgraduate Studies, commenced the workshop with an overview of its objectives, outlining the importance of the programme in preparing students for successful postgraduate academic journeys.

‎Delivering the first paper presentation on “Overview of Postgraduate Studies and Institutional Expectations,” Prof. Vincent Balogun discussed the roles and responsibilities of postgraduate students, publication expectations, graduation requirements, and common challenges encountered during postgraduate studies, as well as practical solutions for overcoming them.

‎The second facilitator, Prof. Hilary Owaomah, delivered an extensive lecture on Research Methodology, Ethics, and Academic Integrity. His presentation covered key areas such as choosing dissertation and thesis topics, developing conceptual frameworks, empirical reviews, information retrieval techniques, critical evaluation of information sources, plagiarism, supervision ethics, and the responsible conduct of research, while encouraging students to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their research endeavors.

‎Prof. Remi, in her presentation, spoke on Performance, Completion, and Success in Postgraduate Studies. She advised students to carefully select research topics they are familiar with and are genuinely interested in, noting that passion and adequate knowledge of a subject area significantly enhance research performance, timely completion, and overall academic success.

‎The programme ended with interactive sessions where participants engaged facilitators in discussions and sought clarifications on various aspects of postgraduate studies.
