The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Elom, has inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives for the 2025/2026 academic session with a charge to uphold integrity and ethical conduct in service.
Speaking during the ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room, Professor Elom, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Romanus Ejiaga, congratulated the new leaders and reminded them that the union exists to represent the legitimate interests of students. He warned against extortion, sorting, and other unethical practices, stressing that student leadership is not a platform for personal gain.

“Lead by example, uphold the dignity of the institution, and be role models to others,” he said, assuring the executives of management’s support to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the electoral committee led by Dr. Onyekachi Eni for conducting a transparent, peaceful, and credible election, while also appreciating the immediate-past executive for their service.
In his inaugural address, the new SUG President, Comrade Kevin Nwankwo, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for providing a level playing ground for students to freely elect their leaders. He described his emergence as a call to service and pledged to run an administration built on transparency, accountability, and student welfare.

“The task before us is enormous, but together we can make a difference,” he said, promising to collaborate with stakeholders to address the needs of students and to collectively drive excellence across the university.
Delivering his valedictory speech, the outgoing president, Comrade Ngwu Sopuruchi Victor, highlighted the achievements of his administration and urged the new executive to sustain collaboration with university authorities. He listed expansion of the ICT centre, review of mandatory internet service payments, and strengthening of academic support systems as pressing areas that require attention.
“The future of AE-FUNAI rests in your hands as student leaders,” he said, urging them to be worthy ambassadors of the university.

The ceremony climaxed with the swearing-in of the new executive members, senators, and judiciary officers, who took an oath of allegiance administered by Barrister Ogochukwu Onuorah, Head of the Legal and General Administration Unit, to uphold the ideals and regulations of the institution.
