Renowned lawyer and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Aare Babalola, has issued a warning to the National Assembly regarding the establishment of additional universities in Nigeria. This caution came during a courtesy visit led by former Senate leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, and a delegation including former governor of Zamfara, Aliyu Shinkafi, to Afe Babalola.

Aare Babalola emphasized that any university established by the National Assembly should adhere to the regulations and guidelines set by the National Universities Commission (NUC). He expressed concern about recent reports indicating that over 107 private universities in Nigeria are involved in certificate racketeering, deeming such revelations as both disturbing and embarrassing. Aare Babalola underscored the importance of decisive action by the Federal Government in granting operational licenses only to those meeting the required standards.

He urged a focus on improving existing universities rather than creating new ones without proper funding.
