AGAIN :NYSC Demobilizes 54 Fake UNICAL Graduates, Plans Legal Prosecution

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has demobilized 54 corps members who were illegally mobilized by the University of Calabar (UNICAL). The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, announced the demobilization on Saturday in Abuja, emphasizing that the affected individuals will face legal prosecution.

In addition to these 54, another 19 individuals who had initially registered online for mobilization were prevented from commencing service, while four Certificates of National Service were not issued to other culprits. This latest action comes on the heels of the recent voiding of 101 certificates by the NYSC, bringing the total to 178.

Brigadier General Ahmed praised the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, for her honesty in alerting the NYSC to the presence of unqualified graduates on the institution’s mobilization list. He noted that Professor Obi's intervention is crucial in the NYSC’s ongoing efforts to sanitize its mobilization process.

“The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar came here to report that she observed some names appeared on the institution’s list and they ought not to have been there. I give kudos to the Vice-Chancellor," General Ahmed stated.

He further highlighted previous incidents of fraudulent mobilization, including a case where a bread seller was mobilized as a graduate from the same institution. General Ahmed affirmed that the NYSC would continue to collaborate with all Heads of Corps Producing Institutions and relevant stakeholders to eliminate such fraud.

He stressed the importance of integrity among those responsible for entering graduate data for mobilization and urged employers to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates presented for job placements.
