Alex Ekwueme University VC Prof Sunday Elom Calls on Federal Government for Land Dispute Resolution
Alex Ekwueme Federal University's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Elom calls for federal assistance to compensate and resettle landowners, addressing the security and development challenges caused by their continued presence on campus.
In a significant development at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Elom, has urged the federal government to assist the Ebonyi State government in compensating and resettling the original owners of the land where the university is situated. This appeal is aimed at enabling the landowners to vacate the campus and allowing for the university's full development.
The Vice-Chancellor made this call during a visit from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students' Engagements, Mr. Asefon Sunday, as part of the Safe School Initiative campaign. Prof. Elom emphasized that the university has faced significant challenges due to the continued stay of the landowners on campus, hindering meaningful development and safety measures, such as fencing the campus.

Prof. Elom commended the current administration's efforts towards revitalizing the university system through the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Student Loan Scheme, and the Safe School Initiative and Security Architecture. He also praised the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for his people-oriented policies, especially his plan to revitalize education in the state.

However, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the inability to compensate and resettle the landowners has prevented the university from implementing critical security measures, including the construction of a complete fence around the campus. This, in turn, poses security concerns for the university community.

Mr. Asefon Sunday, in response, reiterated the federal government's commitment to education and safety through the Students' Loan Scheme and the Safe Schools Initiative. These programs aim to enhance access to education and provide a safe learning environment for students.
The Vice-Chancellor's appeal underscores the need for collaborative efforts between the federal and state governments to address the university's land issues, ensuring a secure and conducive environment for academic pursuits.
