Three siblings who were reportedly abducted on their way home from school in Abia, have been reunited with their parents. Following a frantic search operation, two of the children were rescued in Anambra State after three weeks, with the last child being rescued in Delta State last week.

Three siblings who were reportedly abducted on their way home from school in Abia, have been reunited with their parents. The reunion took place after the children were received by the state Governor, Alex Otti.

The three children—Gideon (aged 8), Divine (6), and Israel (4)—hail from Ikwuano and were abducted while returning home from school on May 10, 2024. According to reports, they had made a stopover at their grandmother’s house, where a motorcyclist was engaged to take them home. However, instead of ensuring their safe return, the motorcyclist abducted the kids.

 Following a frantic search operation, two of the children were rescued in Anambra State after three weeks, with the last child being rescued in Delta State last week.

Governor Alex Otti expressed gratitude to God and all those involved in the rescue operation. Speaking at the reunion in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, he emphasized the importance of vigilance in safeguarding children. “I would like to admonish parents to be more careful, because this situation was avoidable. First and foremost, never hand over your children to strangers, whether they are Keke or Okada riders. Nothing is more crucial than ensuring the safety and well-being of our children. Let this be a lesson to parents, grandparents, and everyone connected to Abia’s children.”

The Governor stressed the need to take children’s security seriously, urging everyone to learn from this incident and prevent its recurrence.

In a related development, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the State Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced the arrest of suspects in connection with the abduction. Rev Sister Pauline Alozie, Chizoba DJ, Glory Umuna, Georgina Nonye, and Philip Ibe were apprehended in Amawbia and Nkpor (Anambra State) as well as Warri (Delta State).
