Alleged Sex-for-Grade Scandal: FUOYE Lecturer Denies Accusations and Threatens N500 Billion Lawsuit

Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia, a lecturer at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has strongly denied accusations of sexual harassment and intentionally awarding a failing grade to Aramide Olahanloye, a female student. The allegations were made by Mr. Olahanloye Rasaq, affiliated with the Nigerian Army Command School 192 Battalion in Ogun State.

In response, Dr. Agbegbedia, through his attorney Peter Ekavwo, has vehemently refuted the claims. The legal team demands that Mr. Rasaq retracts his statements and removes all defamatory content within seven days, or face a lawsuit for N500 billion.

The formal letter, titled "DEFAMATION OF DR. ANTHONY AGBEGBEDIA, LECTURER IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, OYE-EKITI," asserts:

  • Dr. Agbegbedia did not give a failing grade to Aramide Olahanloye due to any alleged personal advances. Instead, the grade was a result of the student’s performance according to the university’s approved marking scheme.
  • The letter alleges that Mr. Rasaq, who is a teacher himself, attempted to pressure Dr. Agbegbedia into changing his daughter's grade by leveraging his position and influence. When Dr. Agbegbedia explained the need for Aramide to improve her academic performance, Mr. Rasaq allegedly responded with gratitude while continuing to pressure for a grade change.
  • Dr. Agbegbedia suggested a formal re-mark of the script as the proper procedure for challenging grades, rather than succumbing to undue influence.

The letter accuses Mr. Rasaq of resorting to media defamation and cyberbullying after failing to convince Dr. Agbegbedia to alter his daughter's grade unjustly. The legal team emphasizes that such actions have tarnished Dr. Agbegbedia's reputation, particularly within the academic community where he is regarded as a distinguished scholar.
