ARCN Executive Secretary Visits ABU to Strengthen Ties with Africa’s Largest Agricultural Research Complex

The Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr Abubakar Adam Dabbam, has visited Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed. 

Dr Dabbam was received at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room, Senate Building, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria today (Tuesday, 13th January, 2026). 

He told the Vice-Chancellor that he was on a familiarization mission to ABU in order to visit the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), and National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI). 

The Executive Secretary described the Vice-Chancellor as a seasoned planner who had excelled in his career.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and Directors of ABU agric complex for the warm reception accorded him and members of his team.

In a remark, the Director, IAR, Prof Ado Yusuf, said they had enjoyed good working relationship with ARCN and that the Council was proud of their achievements.

He expressed gratitude to him for coming and wished him a happy stay in ABU.

Also speaking, the Director, Planning, Resource and Statistics, ARCN, Dr Aliyu Shuaibu Madugu, described the three research institutes as an "essential arm" of the university.

Dr Madugu said ARCN was looking forward to reviving the long collaborations it had with ABU.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, thanked the Executive Secretary for the visit.

Prof Ahmed said he believed in the background and capacity of Dr Dabbam, having worked with him for long.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the university had the largest agricultural complex, stressing that the complex was very special as the foundation of the university started there.

He appreciated all the support ARCN had been giving to the complex through funding.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured the Executive Secretary of ABU's readiness to support him and ensure that he succeeded.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research, and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, assisted the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the guest.

Others present were Director, NAERLS, Prof Sani Yusuf Ahmad; and Prof M O Otu, who stood in for Ag. Director, NAPRI, Prof Muhammad Rabi'u Hassan.
