ATBU Alumna Angela Dooshima Shines at University of Cambridge

A proud Balewite and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) alumna, Angela Dooshima Sughnen, has made a name for herself at the prestigious University of Cambridge. Angela graduated with First Class Honours in Agriculture (Crop Production) from ATBU and went on to contribute to research at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.

She won the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study at Cambridge, where she earned an MPhil in Biological Sciences (Crop Science pathway) with distinction. Her research at Cambridge focused on soybean genetic improvement using advanced techniques like Virus-Induced Gene Editing (VIGE) to strengthen crop resilience and tackle food security challenges in Africa.

Currently based in the UK, Angela continues to work with the Crop Science Centre and related initiatives, applying her knowledge to projects that connect advanced science with agricultural impact for African communities.
