Bayero University Kano Secures Share of $38 Million ICT Development Grant

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has been selected as one of ten federal universities to benefit from a $38 million ICT Development initiative funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

The project, officially launched on July 1, 2025, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja, aims to transform Nigeria's tertiary education system through digital innovation and infrastructure development.

The initiative seeks to promote hybrid learning models, improve research infrastructure, strengthen digital systems, and enhance teacher training through cutting-edge technologies. The project will also provide modern ICT tools, expand internet bandwidth, and improve digital literacy, ultimately enhancing the quality of teaching, learning, and research at BUK.

The project is expected to reduce the cost of educational service delivery, boost institutional productivity, and enhance the employability of BUK graduates by improving their digital competencies. It aligns with the NUC's Blueprint for the Rapid Revitalization of University Education in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor of BUK was represented at the launch event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Professor Amina Mustapha, and the BUK Project Team Lead, Dr. Faruk Umar Ambursa. The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Honourable Minister of Education, French Ambassador to Nigeria, and AFD Country Director.
