Staff of tertiary institutions have been urged to diligently carry out their official assignments to avoid disciplinary actions. This advice was given by the Registrar of the University of Delta (UNIDEL) Agbor, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi, during the October edition of the university’s training for administrative, executive, and secretariat cadres.

The training, which took place on the main campus, focused on enhancing professionalism and efficiency among staff members. Barrister Omagbemi emphasized that adhering to institutional ethics and maintaining a high standard of work brings respect, fosters collaboration, and promotes personal growth.

“No boss can give you a query when you are doing the right thing. Be dutiful and always be reminded of the University’s ethics,” the Registrar stated.

He further highlighted the importance of accountability, responsibility, integrity, transparency, and excellence, urging staff to eradicate arrogance, laziness, and misconduct. He noted that doing the right thing helps build trust and credibility with colleagues and enhances one's professional reputation.

Addressing heads of various units, Barr. Omagbemi advised them to respect and value their subordinates while maintaining a focus on achieving set goals that would contribute to the growth of the institution. He also encouraged leaders to correct staff members administratively and avoid bullying or threats, fostering a positive work environment.

The guest speaker at the event, Mr. Broderick Opuofeni, delivered a lecture on "Managing Your Subordinates in Public and Private Service". He discussed effective management strategies, including clear communication, setting realistic deadlines, monitoring tasks, rewarding good work, and minimizing distractions in the workplace. He also shared tips on how subordinates can effectively manage their superiors, such as taking detailed notes, being punctual for meetings, and providing relevant information when necessary.
