Bonny Kingdom Daughter, Gracewealth Ibitoru Hart, Emerges SUG Vice President

Gracewealth Ibitoru Hart, a 300-level student of Commercial and Industrial Law, has made history by becoming the Vice President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.

Gracewealth Ibitoru Hart, a 300-level student of Commercial and Industrial Law, has made history by becoming the Vice President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt. Hart is the first indigene of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria, to hold this prestigious position.

The election, held on Friday, September 6, 2024, saw a remarkable display of student participation and enthusiasm. Hart secured 2,537 votes, narrowly defeating her opponent, Saatah Domalobari Deleh, who garnered 2,412 votes.

In a virtual chat with Kristina Reports, Hart expressed her joy over the victory, stating that it has always been her dream to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. She emphasized that this opportunity has presented itself at the perfect time.

Hart revealed that her passion for leadership and making a difference in people’s lives motivated her to run for the position, despite the challenges she faced along the way. “And the fact that I want to make an impact in the lives of everybody that I come in contact with using this opportunity that God has given me,” she said.

She also highlighted the difficulties she encountered, including pressure to compromise her standards. “Again they said it was going to be difficult for me to aspire for this position if I also don’t compromise my standard even if I knew I was competent for it but yet I didn’t relent and I also didn’t give it an option to compromise and start sleeping around with men just to get financial support,” Hart added.

Hart believes that people have high expectations of her, and she is determined to meet them. “I believe the people are expecting so much from me. Among my primary things I want to achieve are inclusive decision making, diverse representation, improvement of female aspire conference, strengthening campus welfare amongst others.”

Her victory is seen as a significant achievement for the Faculty of Law at RSU, where she is a standout student. As the new SUG Vice President, Hart is expected to bring her leadership skills to the forefront and contribute positively to the student body.
