The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the outcome of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
During a press briefing at JAMB’s main office in Bwari, Abuja’s outskirts, Registrar Ishaq Oloyede declared the UTME results available. Oloyede reported that the exam saw participation from over 1.94 million candidates across 118 cities and more than 700 centers nationwide. The UTME commenced on April 19th, Friday, and concluded on April 29th, Monday. Of the 1,989,668 registered candidates, 80,810 were absentees. In total, 1,904,189 candidates took the UTME over a span of six days. “From the 1,842,464 results issued, a mere 0.4% achieved scores exceeding 300, while 24% scored at least 50% (200/400),” stated the head of JAMB.

He mentioned that 1,402,490 candidates, representing 76%, scored below 200. Nonetheless, JAMB reiterated its decision to withhold the identity of the top scorer. “The board has consistently expressed at various platforms its decision against publicizing the names of top scorers, viewing the UTME merely as a qualifying test due to additional factors that will contribute to the eventual minimum entry score for higher education aspirants,” Oloyede remarked. Increased Female Participation A detailed analysis of the examinees revealed a higher female turnout than male. According to the JAMB registrar, 982,393 male candidates, accounting for 49.4%, registered for the 2024 UTME, compared to 1,007,275 female candidates, making up 50.6%.

Oloyede highlighted the noticeable rise in female registrations, with over a million girls signing up for the test. "For the first time in three years, female registrants have outnumbered their male counterparts. “Among the total registrants, 3,164 were individuals with disabilities.” “The enrollment of persons with disabilities has seen a 36.2% increase from the previous year,” Oloyede informed attendees.

Instructions for Checking 2024 JAMB UTME Results JAMB has provided guidelines for participants of the 2024 UTME to check their results effortlessly. “Candidates should send a text with ‘UTMERESULT’ to 55019/66019 using the phone numbers registered with. Visiting a CBT center or cybercafé is unnecessary,” advised JAMB. “Anticipated responses are as follows: a candidate with a result will get the message, ‘Dear Candidate X, your result is as detailed below.’”
