BUK Hosts 1st Quarterly SIWES Zonal Meeting

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) recently hosted the first quarterly Student Industrial Working Experience Scheme (SIWES) Zonal Meeting, which brought together SIWES coordinators from various institutions across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.

The meeting was facilitated by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and took place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) conference hall.

The meeting aimed to enlighten participants on the significant achievements and the crucial role played by ITF in administering SIWES affairs. In his opening remarks, Engr. Suraj Muhammad Tukur, Area Manager of ITF Kano and Jigawa Office, emphasized that the meeting was initiated to provide a platform for discussing issues and challenges related to SIWES administration in Nigeria.

According to Engr. Tukur, SIWES has evolved into a comprehensive skill acquisition program, offering students the opportunity to learn, secure employment, and become self-sustaining. He highlighted that without the SIWES program, students would graduate with first degrees and master's degrees but struggle to find employment opportunities, rendering their academic achievements futile."
