BUK Strengthens Security with Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Services

The Management of Bayero University Kano has engaged He added that the organization started in 2016 as the services of Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Services to beef up the security of its campuses and surrounding communities.

The Vice Chancellor received the officials of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Services in a courtesy meeting on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, accompanied by the University's Director of Security, Abdulyakin Ibrahim.

Community hunters initially, after realizing significant security threats in Nigerian forests, transformed into the Hunters Group of Nigeria in 2020. By 2023, they established a complete structure spanning all 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory. In his remarks, the Director of Security at Bayero University Kano, Malam Abdulyakin Ibrahim, mentioned their involvement due to security challenges with neighboring settlements, mainly herdsmen. After lodging complaints with the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service were recommended.

In response, Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas expressed admiration for the organization of the Forest Security outfit. He explained that due to the University's lack of perimeter fencing, security challenges persist, leading to engagements with Military personnel, Nigerian Police, and Civil Defense Corps.

 

The Team Leader and State Commandant, Abdullahi Al, informed the Vice Chancellor that their mission is to enhance the security of the university, which is a source of pride for Kano and Northern Nigeria.

 

The Vice Chancellor assured them that the University's Legal team would draft an MOU to be extended to their National office, and he has approved the request for 2 motorcycles.
