Several students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) sustained injuries when the ceiling of the Oduduwa Hall collapsed during a lecture, following torrential rainfall and a whirlwind on Thursday morning.

According to a statement by the university's spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, the incident occurred while students were attending a lecture, specifically on SER, in the Amphitheatre of the Oduduwa Hall.
The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, promptly led other principal officers to ensure that injured students received adequate medical attention at the university's medical and health center.

In cases requiring further medical attention, the Vice-Chancellor accompanied two students to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where the chief medical director, John Okeniyi, supervised the proceedings.
In light of the incident, the Vice-Chancellor appealed for calm and urged students and staff to continue their academic and administrative activities. Additionally, the university management has sealed off the amphitheater, the site of the incident, until further notice.
The incident underscores the need for heightened safety measures on university campuses, particularly during adverse weather conditions. As investigations continue, the university community awaits further updates on the incident and measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
