Chrisland University Professor Calls for Technological Advancements to Combat Insecurity in Nigeria

Professor Isaac Odun-Ayo of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has called for the Federal Government and Nigerian military to integrate advanced technologies such as cloud computing, big data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve national security.

Chrisland University Professor Calls for Technological Advancements to Combat Insecurity in Nigeria

Professor Isaac Odun-Ayo of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has urged the Federal Government and Nigerian military to adopt advanced technologies to enhance national security. Speaking at the 2nd inaugural lecture of the university, titled “Who Are These That Fly As Clouds? Scaling Computing Metaphors,” Odun-Ayo emphasized the need for integrating new technologies like cloud computing, big data, and generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Nigeria’s security framework.

Odun-Ayo stressed that the Nigerian Armed Forces should lead the adoption of these technologies to modernize the country’s security architecture across land, air, and sea. He also recommended increased government spending on social and human intelligence to address threats from hostile non-state actors.

In his address, Odun-Ayo commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructural Development Fund and proposed the creation of a “Renewed Hope Science and Technology Development Fund.” This proposed fund would focus on cloud infrastructure and AI to further bolster Nigeria’s technological capabilities.

The Professor advocated for substantial public cloud investment and the development of domestic technology providers. He also called for comprehensive training for government and military personnel to optimize the use of emerging technologies like cloud computing and AI. Furthermore, Odun-Ayo suggested updating military and paramilitary curricula to include training in quantum computing and AI to better prepare personnel for modern security challenges.

Chrisland University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, highlighted the institution's commitment to preparing students for future technological challenges in computer science. She echoed the call for leveraging technology in the fight against terrorism.
