Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has formally prohibited the hawking of goods across all its three campuses as part of measures to maintain order, enhance the learning environment, and regulate commercial activities within the institution.
The directive, issued via an internal memorandum from the Office of the Registrar on March 9, 2026, follows the 211th University Management Committee meeting held on February 23, 2026 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room. The policy takes immediate effect.
All individuals previously engaged in selling goods within the campuses are now required to relocate their businesses to designated commercial areas approved by the university. Members of the university community are encouraged to patronize sellers exclusively in these authorized locations to ensure compliance.

The memorandum also warned that violators would face sanctions, including apprehension and confiscation of goods, which would only be released upon payment of penalties as determined by university authorities.
Signed by Registrar Mr. Chris U. Obi, the directive underscores the university’s commitment to creating a more organized, safe, and conducive academic environment across all campuses.
