Ekiti State Expresses Concern Over Unequal Appointments to Educational Institutions

The recent appointment of Governing Boards for universities, polytechnics, and federal colleges of education has ignited controversy in Nigeria. While the announcement did not come as a surprise to many, the distribution of appointments among the states has raised eyebrows.

The Federal Government, under the leadership of Tinubu, dissolved the boards some time ago, leading to speculation about the new appointments. After facing pressure, including an ultimatum from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the list was finally released.
However, the National New Progressive Party (NNPP) in Ekiti State has voiced deep concern over the allocation of appointments. Chief Ade Ayeni, the NNPP Ekiti State Chairman, highlighted the issue, stating, "It's not merely the release of the list that gives us concern. Rather, it's the fact that Ekiti State has been abysmally shortchanged."
"Out of a total of 555 appointments distributed among the 36 states of the Federation, Ekiti State received only 6 slots. According to an equal sharing formula, each state should have at least 15 slots. In stark contrast, Osun State, for instance, secured approximately 21 or 22 appointments," he observed.

The glaring disparity has raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the appointment process. Chief Ayeni called for a review of the allocation to ensure that Ekiti State receives its rightful share.
