Tension grips the Kogi Eastern Senatorial District following another brazen kidnapping attempt. In the incident, a staff member of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba narrowly evaded capture but not without sustaining grievous gunshot wounds.

This was announced on Monday by the Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch's (KENW) Director of Public Communication, Wing Commander Iye Ayefu, rtd. He accused the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Joel Salifu Oyibo, of watching helplessly while his local government area, Ofu, is taken over by kidnappers,

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was traversing the perilous Ogbakpedo road, a route fraught with danger, when assailants pounced. Disguised in military camouflage, the kidnappers ambushed unsuspecting commuters, demanding exorbitant ransoms for their release.

Wing Commander Ayefu noted that although the university staff member managed to evade capture, the encounter was not without consequence. Suffering gunshot injuries, the victim now finds themselves hospitalized and undergoing treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, highlighting the stark reality of the peril faced by ordinary citizens in the region.
