Ekiti University Final-Year Student Arrested for Alleged Rape of Male Colleague
The spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation, stating that the suspect denies the allegations.
The Ekiti State Police have confirmed the arrest of Olalekan Oni, a final-year student at the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), for allegedly raping a male colleague. Oni, who is popularly known as Asiwaju and a student in the Criminology Department, recently presented his research project on "Causes and Youth Involvement in Criminal Activity: A Case Study of Oye Local Government Area."
A widely circulated video on Tuesday showed the suspect being escorted by police through a crowd while dressed in a shirt and shorts.

The National Association of Ondo State Students issued a statement clarifying that Oni is not a member of their association. The union's president, Adeyemi Temitope Festus, stated, "The individual Oni Olalekan, popularly known as Asiwaju, accused of sexual assault, is not a member, executive, or appointee of our association."
Similarly, the FUOYE Student Union also distanced itself from the accused, stating, "Oni Olalekan, popularly known as Asiwaju, is not a member of the Students’ Union Government nor is he an appointee. Any claims to the contrary are incorrect."

"Investigation has commenced, the suspect has been arrested, and investigations have commenced because he is denying why the complainant is alleging, so we will see the result of the investigation," Sunday said.
