FCH Dadinkowa Management Charges Engineers to Fabricate Localized Farm Machinery
The Acting Provost of the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, Dr. Umar A. Umar,And the Deputy Provost Dr Isiaka Ibrahim, today Friday 22, May 2026, held a productive interactive session with engineers from various departments of the institution at the college board room.
Deputy Provost highlight on the reason for the meeting is to focused on realigning the engineering team’s mandate with the College’s core mission of supporting local farmers through practical innovation.

Addressing the engineers, Dr. Umar emphasized that their primary responsibility is to solve real-world problems faced by farmers using digital and mechanical solutions. He urged them to develop innovations and technical know-how that can make farming easier, faster, and more efficient at the local level. He noted that since the College’s establishment, there should already be more tools and equipment fabricated in-house, tested by farmers, and proven effective by the College’s research body.
He further stressed that the purpose of institutions like FCH Dadinkowa is to generate new discoveries and pass that knowledge to young minds and farmers, shaping their thinking through hands-on innovation and problem-solving in farming system.
In response, the College engineers expressed appreciation to the Acting Provost and Management for creating the platform for open dialogue. They affirmed their readiness to contribute their expertise toward the growth and development of the College. During the discussion, they requested Management support in four key areas:
- A functional workshop
- A well-equipped laboratory
- Training opportunities for engineers
- Accreditation of the Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering program
Responding to the requests, Dr. Umar assured the engineers that all points raised would be addressed. However, he emphasized that implementation would begin with clear evidence of readiness and commitment on the ground.
To kickstart the process, he assigned the engineers a target: develop proposals for ten different farm machines that can be fabricated within the College. These machines should cover the full farming cycle, from land preparation to harvest, and aim to reduce the physical labor burden on local farmers.
The directive signals a renewed push toward practical, solution-driven engineering at FCH Dadinkowa, linking classroom expertise directly to community impact and even the country at large.
