Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Combating Certification Fraud and Enhancing Scholarship Support
On Monday, the Federal Government of Nigeria reiterated its commitment to tackling certification fraud in educational institutions across neighboring countries, aiming to protect the integrity of Nigerian educational certificates on the international stage.

The assurance was made by the Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, during a key engagement with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students Diaspora (NANS Diaspora), headed by President Juwon Chris, a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering student at RMIT University in Australia.

In a statement released by Opeoluwa Ojekemi, Liaison Officer for Diaspora Student Affairs at the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Engagement, Sununu addressed concerns raised by the students. He detailed the government's ongoing efforts to combat certification racketeering, particularly in countries like Benin Republic and Togo, where such fraudulent practices are reportedly prevalent.
Sununu highlighted the government's determination to streamline the student scholarship process, ensuring that deserving students receive the support necessary to pursue their education. He acknowledged the significant challenges Nigerian students face in securing and maintaining international scholarships, which are crucial for their educational and future opportunities.

Ojekemi emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining open and transparent communication with Nigerian students abroad and their representatives. He stressed that continuous dialogue is vital for addressing the issues faced by Nigerian students in the diaspora and for ensuring their academic and professional success.
"This meeting marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to support Nigerian students globally," Ojekemi stated, reinforcing the government's dedication to the well-being and future success of Nigerian students.
